How to tell if it’s a left-hand or right-hand seatbelt

Identifying left-hand and right-hand seatbelts is straightforward once you know what to look for, but the rule is different for 2-point and 3-point belts — so it’s worth a quick refresher before ordering a replacement.

For a 2-point seatbelt, the side is determined by which shoulder the belt comes out from. If it comes out from the right, it’s a right-hand belt; if it comes out from the left, it’s a left-hand belt.

For a 3-point seatbelt, the side is determined by the position of the buckle (the red clip), not the shoulder webbing. If the buckle sits on the left, you need a left-hand 3-point belt; if it sits on the right, you need a right-hand 3-point belt.

Video transcript: How to tell if it’s a left-hand or right-hand seatbelt

Regarding your two pointer seat belt and how to determine the left and the right on your seat, you have your two pointer seat belt coming out from the right. That’s your right hand side. If you have the left hand side, it will be coming out from the left shoulder. Simple as that. Just to highlight, your 3 point seat belt is completely different compared to your two point when selecting the left and right. To make it simple for you to understand, it goes like this. If you require a left hand side seat belt, all you got to do is look on which side your buckle is. Meaning this red clip here, that’s your buckle. So if your buckle’s on the left, then you require a left side 3 pointer. If your buckle’s on the right, you require a right hand side 3 pointer. Simple as that guys.
